Today's Feature: Pattanaik. Jaya.

Devdutt Pattanaik's Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata (published in 2010) looks at the traditional Mahabharata along with many regional variations; it is a fascinating book from start to finish. You can find out more about the book here: Reading Guide - Pattanaik. Jaya.

Here is a passage from the opening pages of the book when Astika persuades King Janamejaya to halt his snake sacrifice:

Who decides what justice is? How does one end this unending spiral of revenge where everyone believes they are right and their opponents are wrong? [...] Dharma is not about defeating others, it is about conquering ourselves. Everybody wins in dharma.
