One-Week Reading Options: Free Online!

Week 14 begins on Monday, so that means there is just one week of reading left and I wanted to highlight here some of the one-week reading options!

There are lots of comic books and graphic novels to read in Bizzell (link to one-week Bizzell options), but I know a lot of you are interested in the free online reading options. Here is a link to all the free online one-week options (40 of them!).

Here are some of my favorites among the free online options:

~ ~ ~

Sita Sings the Blues by Nina Paley. If you did not watch this animated version of the Ramayana earlier in the semester, you might enjoy watching that now, getting a very different perspective on the Ramayana.

The Mahabharata by Sister Nivedita. This is a great one-week version of the Mahabharata if you want to take this opportunity to revisit that epic story.

~ ~ ~

Nala and Damayanti by Donald Mackenzie. This is a beautiful fairy tale that is part of the Mahabharata, and you will see many parallels between the story of Damayanti and Draupadi.

~ ~ ~

Shakuntala and Shaibya by Sunity Devee. Shakuntala and Shaibya are two of the most famous heroines in the Indian storytelling tradition, and you can read about both of them in this lovely book by Sunity Devee.

~ ~ ~

Shri Krishna of Dwarka by C. A. Kincaid. This is a nice overview of the adventure-filled life of Krishna, avatar of the god Vishnu.

~ ~ ~

Indian Fables and Folklore by Shovona Devi. This collection of fables and folktales includes all kinds of stories, including some folktales featuring heroes from the epics.

~ ~ ~

Twenty Jataka Tales by Noor Inayat. This is a wonderful version of the famous Buddhist stories from ancient India.
