- Focus. You can choose to focus on one main area of reading for all four weeks.
OR - Variety. You can cover several different areas, reading from a given source for just one or two weeks each.
- Epics. You can read more versions of the Ramayana, or learn more about the Mahabharata. All the reading options from the first half of the semester are still available, plus many more.
OR - Beyond Epics. You can branch out and explore other forms of Indian storytelling, such as:
- the cycle of tales about Krishna
- the mythology of the gods and goddesses
- all sorts of Indian legends, plus Buddhist jatakas
There are some other ways you can browse the options:
* video options: There is Nina Paley's animated Ramayana, Peter Brook's international Mahabharata, along with videos from the fabulous Epified TV channel at YouTube
* all the FREE online options — including contemporary books (i.e. books published after 1923)
* if you like Kindle ebooks (you can read these on any device instantly), you can search for Kindle ebooks ultracheap (under $5) and for Kindle ebooks cheap (under $10) — and since these books are good for two or more weeks of reading, even a $10 book is a pretty good deal!
* a dozen different graphic novels on Reserve in Bizzell, plus over 100 Amar Chitra Katha comic books also on Reserve (if you are doing ACK comic books, choose two per week)
* options with detailed Reading Guides if you like having lots of background information and context
* stories by women authors and by Indian authors — and also stories that focus on women characters
* you can focus on children's literature or poetry or drama
