There are so many great animal characters in the Ramayana, and you could tell an animal-centered version of the epic for your class project.
Research Tip: Start with the Wikipedia articles for the main animal characters: the great birds Jatayu and Sampati; the monkeys Hanuman, Vali, Sugriva, Angada, plus Nala and Nila; the bear king, Jambavan, and even the squirrels who help to build Rama's bridge. There is a comic book on Reserve about Vali: Vali: The Downfall of an Arrogant King. You will also find this great graphic novel in Bizzell with a section on Jatayu: Divine Beings: Airavata, Jatayu, Nandi and Others.
