Project Idea: Dharma

Together with the concept of Karma, the concept of Dharma is a crucial theme in the epics. There is no single English equivalent: sometimes Dharma is like Justice; at other times, Truth; and at other times, Duty, with even more possible translations. Every story involves Dharma because, with every act, you are either building up Dharma or tearing it down.

Research Tip: Start with the Wikipedia article about Dharma, and also the article about the Bhagavad Gita. You might also enjoy the articles about Adharma (Un-Dharma), Rta (Order), Satya (Truth), Yama (the God of Death and of Dharma), Yoga, and Ashrams (Life Stages).  Then you can start looking for where you see these ideas and themes in the reading you are doing for class. You will find Dharma themes everywhere.
