PARASHURAMA, son of the sage Jamadagni and his wife Renuka, is considered to be an avatar of Vishnu. He is also considered to be one of the immortals, the Chiranjivi. Born a brahmin, he carried out a war against the whole kshatriya class. One of his weapons was the axe, which is why he is called Parashu-Rama, Axe-Rama.
