Project Idea: Traveling India

Both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are set in what is modern-day India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, so you can use your project for this class as a way to learn about the geography, perhaps even imagining/planning your own trip to India. Your project can be very realistic (there are lots of travel and tourism sites online to give you details), or it can be something mystical and supernatural. It's all within the power of your imagination!

Research Tip: Wikipedia will be your best reference for any location you are interested in, from Rama's birthplace in Ayodhya to the Battlefield of Kurukshetra. You can also use Google to do searches for tour packages to India, and then start researching the stories associated with the different cities, temples, and natural wonders like the Ganges or the Himalayas, home to the god Shiva. You can even use Google Maps to see how far it is from Ayodhya to Varanasi (Benares), for example.

Also, be sure to check out the research tips for this topic: Geography of the Ramayana.
